Microsoft is considering Bitcoin payments at its Xbox gaming console online store and has polled users to gauge their feelings on the matter, according to a weekend post on discussion forum Reddit.
The poll asked customers about their views on using payment methods including Bitcoin, said Redditor Jebrusura, who provided a screenshot of one of the questions on the Xbox Series X discussion page.
A reply to their original post further explains that the poll was sent to Insider program participants.
Microsoft did not immediately respond to Decrypt’s request for comment.
Microsoft has past form with Bitcoin; back in 2014, the company started allowing US-based Microsoft users to buy Windows content—including games—with Bitcoin. But it currently doesn’t accept cryptocurrency payments for its Xbox online store.
Meanwhile, Microsoft doesn’t look set to follow the likes of Tesla and Square in buying up Bitcoin for its corporate treasury. CEO Brad Smith said that he hasn’t “heard any conversation” around extending Microsoft’s investment policy to include cryptocurrencies in an interview with CNN, while founder Bill Gates likewise said recently that Microsoft had no plans to emulate Tesla’s $1.5 billion investment in Bitcoin.
Microsoft founder Bill Gates told CNBC today that he has taken a neutral stance on Bitcoin but expressed some views that money is moving toward a digital future. "I don't own Bitcoin, I'm not short Bitcoin. So I've taken a neutral view," he said. The philanthropist pointed out that his foundation has been using some forms of digital currency in developing regions, but not cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. He explain that the currencies they use can be reversed and that they are transparent. He app...
Gates himself has taken a neutral stance on Bitcoin and said he is not an investor. He also cautioned people about making investments in Bitcoin in a bid to ape Elon Musk.
Zora, a social media platform that automatically turns every post into a token on Coinbase’s Base chain, is launching its own token on Wednesday. This comes amid a “content coin” campaign from the creator of Ethereum layer-2 network Base, Jesse Pollak, with many criticizing the founder for his timing. This all began on Wednesday last week, when Base’s official X account created a token on Zora called Base is for everyone which soared to a $16.9 million market cap then crashed 92% to $1.3 million...
Public Keys is a weekly roundup from Decrypt that tracks the key publicly traded crypto companies. This week: Reading tea leaves during Circle and eToro quiet periods, Bitcoin miners selling a lot of Bitcoin, and Semler Scientific offering securities to raise cash to buy Bitcoin to secure a loan to pay the DOJ. It’s oh so quiet There was a jolt of excitement this week when USDC stablecoin issuer Circle told Decrypt the company is in a mandatory quiet period on account of having filed their S-1 a...
Kraken has reorganized its staff across multiple departments in recent months as part of a strategic move before its planned initial public offering next year. A Kraken spokesperson told Decrypt that the company continuously evaluates its workforce to ensure it aligns with its strategic priorities. “We’re approaching this with discipline and intention, making the difficult decision to eliminate certain roles and consolidate teams where redundancies exist, while continuing to hire in key areas of...
