Top cryptocurrencies—including Bitcoin and Ethereum—are down bad as $200 million in long positions have been liquidated.
The price of Bitcoin now stands at just under $68,008 per coin, according to CoinGecko. That's a drop of over 3% in 24 hours—and a fair drop from its March all-time high price of $73,737.
Meanwhile, Ethereum's price has taken a bigger 24-hour hit of 5%; the coin is now trading hands for $3,413.
Faring worse are Solana, the fifth biggest cryptocurrency, which has nosedived by nearly 7%; and Toncoin, which had been on a roll this week—and nearly flipped Dogecoin in the process. It's now priced at $6.65, having dropped by over 7%.
The crypto market has dipped, and traders betting on the price of major cryptocurrencies going up in price have had their positions liquidated. CoinGlass data shows that in the past hour alone, over $200 million in positions have been liquidated.
Over the past day, that number stands at close to $359 million.
Solana (SOL) has seen the biggest losses in the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap today, down about 7% in the past 24 hours according to data CoinGecko, as congestion issues plague the network. The coin is down about 6% over the past week and is now priced at $175. But the fifth-biggest digital asset by market cap isn't the only one suffering: some of the prominent tokens that run on its network have been hit even harder. Wormhole (W), which held its airdrop earlier this week, has been rocke...

Imagine placing a bet on whether a political candidate wins an election, not in USDC or dollars, but in Bitcoin—and when the bet resolves, you don’t lose your exposure to Bitcoin’s value. That’s the provocative case made in “Bootstrapping Liquidity in BTC-Denominated Prediction Markets.” The paper suggests that for many users, BTC settlement isn’t just a niche preference—it could actually deliver superior economics. The author, computer scientist and consultant Fedor Shabashev, begins with a cri...
The price of XRP rose on Thursday after investors rushed into the first U.S. exchange-traded spot fund to give exposure to the coin. The price of XRP coin recently stood at $3.11 after rising about 2% over a 24-hour period, according to crypto data provider CoinGecko. The asset—the third-largest cryptocurrency in the ecosystem—is about 15% below its July all-time high mark of $3.65. Its rise comes following Thursday’s debut of the Rex-Osprey XRP ETF by financial institutions Rex Shares and Ospr...
Potential ETF approvals for XRP, Solana, and other altcoins are looming in the near future, and traders are watching closely to determine which way prices may break—up or down. The pending uncertainty has led to a swing in odds on some of Myriad’s most traded prediction markets. Here’s a look at some of the hottest from this week. (Disclaimer: Myriad Markets is a product of Decrypt’s parent company, DASTAN.) XRP’s next hit: Moon to $4 or dip to $2? Market Open: August 11 Market Close: Open to...
