It’s official: the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto game will arrive in early December.

The first proper glimpse at the game will come more than 10 years after the launch of the last game, Grand Theft Auto V. The Wednesday announcement comes following a late Tuesday report from Bloomberg citing sources that suggested that Rockstar Games would announce the game this week ahead of a trailer in December.

“We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto,” Rockstar Games President and co-founder Sam Houser wrote in an official company post.

Houser cited the 25th anniversary of the company as part of the reason for launching the trailer in December. “We look forward to many more years of sharing these experiences with all of you,” he added.

Rockstar first confirmed development of the next entry in the open-world action franchise, which many gamers are calling “Grand Theft Auto 6” in the absence of an official title, back in February 2022 following years of speculation.

In September 2022, a massive leak of video footage and data from the in-development game was shared to the internet by hackers who breached Rockstar’s internal systems (the teenage hacker was later convicted). Much of that footage has disappeared due to takedown notices, but not before fans gleaned potential insights about what to expect from the upcoming game.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is believed to take place in the series’ familiar Miami-inspired locale of Vice City, and will reportedly star a female protagonist for the first time—one of two playable characters, Bloomberg reported, alongside a male character.

Rumors also suggest that the game will implement cryptocurrency in some manner, but such rumors are currently unsubstantiated.
