Despite Bitcoin's rise yesterday and today, the crypto meme coin pump has subsided as the meme stock craze surrounding GameStop and Roaring Kitty cools off—and major tokens have plunged as a result.
The GameStop-themed tribute cryptocurrency, GME, has crashed the hardest today: the Solana-based token is down over 44% and is trading for $0.006433, according to CoinGecko.
Over the week, it's still up by over 1,240%—but today's drop shows that traders are selling as meme stock mania slows down.
Of the large-cap coins and tokens, Ethereum-based Pepe has shed close to 4% of its value at a current price just below $0.00001. The token—which launched last year—was another meme coin that had been on a run this week. Ethereum-based Floki has also dipped today, dropping by 5% to a price around $0.0002.
Meanwhile, Dogwifhat, which runs on the Solana network, has nearly lost 4% of its value, with CoinGecko data showing that the token is priced at $2.78. The Solana-based BONK is faring better but is still down 2% on the day to $0.000024.
Dogecoin, the leading meme coin by market cap, is actually up 1% on the day to $0.151
Meme coins and tokens are cryptocurrencies that are typically inspired by Internet memes and jokes. They are very volatile and often disappear as quickly as they spring into existence.
They have made a comeback following Bitcoin's surge this year. But this week, they boomed even more with the return of surging demand for so-called meme stocks.
Floki Inu is up 17% in the last 24 hours as meme coins continue to roar, after the apparent return of notorious meme influencer Roaring Kitty. The meme coin market appears to be correlated with Roaring Kitty tweets. During his 12 hour absence, the market cooled off. But since the account has started sending messages again, meme coins are soaring once again. Roaring Kitty (also known as Keith Gill and DeepFuckingValue) was a key figure in the 2021 GameStop short squeeze, which captured the inter...
Meme stocks, which trade on U.S. stock exchanges, are shares of companies that have a cult-like following on the Internet.
Such stocks, like GameStop and AMC Entertainment, experienced a resurgence this week after the Internet celebrity who kicked off their first run, Roaring Kitty (aka Keith Gill), posted online for the first time in nearly three years.
The craze appears to be now dying down, though, as traders cash out—some with massive gains.

The U.S. money supply has climbed to a record high, but crypto markets continue to extend their decline, moving against a tide of rising liquidity. The M2 money supply in the U.S. surged 4.5% year-over-year in June to a record $22.02 trillion, the Kobeissi Letter wrote in a tweet on Thursday. The broad measure of money in circulation often correlates with asset prices, as increased liquidity tends to flow into markets, driving up inflation and valuations along with it. So what gives? Derek Lim...
BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) has topped $10 billion in assets, marking the third-fastest ascent to that milestone in ETF history, Bloomberg data shows, in a sign of surging investor appetite for Ethereum. ETHA needed just 251 days to reach this threshold, less time than all but the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) and Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fundspot Bitcoin funds, which needed just 34 days and 53 days, respectively. The fund doubled in size over 10 days ending Wednesday, adding $5...
Crypto entrepreneur and billionaire Mike Novogratz thinks that Ethereum has the ability to outperform Bitcoin over the next few months. During a Thursday interview with CNBC, the CEO of digital assets infrastructure company Galaxy said that institutional interest could push the second-biggest cryptocurrency higher after a recent surge. Ethereum—or ETH—was recently trading at nearly $3,730 per coin, according to crypto data provider CoinGecko, after hitting a 2025 record of $3,848 on Monday. The...
