Uniswap Rival Sushiswap Hits $30m Daily Volume with Yield Farming Play

It’s been a record-breaking weekend for Uniswap, which hit its highest daily trading volume ever—over $450m.  Propping up Uniswap’s success this weekend was the crazy prices of DeFi governance tokens—including the token of newcomer Sushiswap, which launched a couple of days ago.  Think of Sushiswap as Uniswap meets yield farming. It’s similar enough: like Uniswap, it’s a liquidity provider that rewards those who put liquidity into its smart contracts with a portion of the  trading fees.  But in...

Hackers Launch Third 51% Attack on Ethereum Classic This Month

Strategies to protect the Ethereum Classic blockchain from 51% attacks might be too little, too late. For the third time in August, hackers gained control of the Ethereum Classic blockchain in a 51% attack that reorganized over 7,000 blocks.  Though Ethereum Classic developers are rushing to protect the blockchain from future attacks, these three attacks raise concerns over the network’s security. Ryanair CEO calls Bitcoin a "Ponzi scheme" after scam fakes endorsement

The CEO of budget airline Ryanair is the latest celebrity whose likeness has been used to promote a fake Bitcoin auto-trading scheme, similar to those that have exploited stars as diverse as actress Kate Winslet and billionaire Sir Alan Sugar.  But when probed on his involvement by The Sunday Times, CEO Michael O’Leary said he had nothing to do with the auto trading scheme and that Bitcoin itself was a scam, “equivalent to a Ponzi scheme.” The fraudulent ad—which has apparently been hosted on n...

Augur swept up in DeFi craze as crypto hits highest price since January 2018

Trading boomed this weekend for Augur (REP), the coin that underlies the ambitious decentralized betting protocol masterminded by Joey Krug. Its price hit highs of $30 on Saturday and trading volume is through the roof.  Augur began its slow upward charge at about midday on Friday, marching from about $20 to $30 by early Saturday morning—an increase of 50%—according to data from metrics site CoinMarketCap. This was Augur’s highest price since January 2018, when Augur hit nearly $110. And at pea...
