The price of Bitcoin shot past the $12,000 mark today, doing so for the third time in 2020. According to CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin’s current price is around $12,015.
BitcoinBitcoin is currently on an unprecedented run, adding everyday to a record setting number of days where the value has closed above $10,000. The previous record of 62 days, set between December 2017 and January 2018, was surpassed on September 29, 2020. Today, Bitcoin is on its 83rd consecutive day above $10,000.
“Passing $12,000 is a big step as this has been tough to break through for some time. As more than one analyst has noted, there had been significant resistance at that level,” Jason Deane, Bitcoin analyst at Quantum Economics, told Decrypt.
Deane also added that a further rise for Bitcoin’s price may be on the cards if strong support for the cryptocurrency is built.
“In my view, building quick, strong support above this level will set the stage for further price discovery based on both technical analysis and increasingly positive fundamentals.” Deane said.
The last time Bitcoin broke the $12,000 mark was in August of this year. During that price increase, Bitcoin experienced somewhat of a rollercoaster ride, initially reaching $12,197, before falling back to $11,780. It then regrouped, propelling to $12,240 before falling back down under the $12,000 bracket, until now.
In recent months, institutional investors have ramped up their interest in the cryptocurrency, with major names like MicroStrategy and Square making significant Bitcoin buys.
Michael Saylor, CEO of MicroStrategy, bought $425 million Bitcoin in September and August amid this summer’s bull run. The purchase meant that the billion-dollar tech firm, which counts, BlackRock, Vanguard, and one of the world’s largest pension funds as investors, now had most of its reserve assets in Bitcoin. MicroStrategy Exposes World’s Largest Sovereign Wealth Fund to Bitcoin Today, Saylor released a “curated set of resources” put together by the company, designed for “any company or inves...
Looking ahead, Bitcoin is setting its sights on breaking 100 days above $10,000. If the famed cryptocurrency does not fall below $10,000 before November 5, 2020, it will have spent 100 days in five-figure territory, a feat never before seen.
Before then, though, it will have to negotiate the potentially choppy waters of the US election on November 3.

Ethereum is preparing for its Pectra upgrade, which aims to boost the network’s scalability and offer better staking flexibility, by launching a testnet on Monday codenamed Hoodi. This comes after two previous testnets, Holesky and Sepolia, encountered technical issues. If all goes to plan, it could hit mainnet as early as April 25. The second largest cryptocurrency’s price appears unmoved by this news. Over the past 24 hours, the Ethereum price has gained only 0.5% and is currently trading at j...
New research from the European Central Bank suggests that public awareness about plans for a digital euro has increased substantially—but this hasn't been matched by a rise in the number of consumers interested in using it. About 19,000 households across 11 EU countries took part in the study, which exposed one of the biggest roadblocks to adoption: Many of those polled are perfectly happy with the payment methods they already use. Participants shown a video explaining the key benefits of this c...
Cboe BZX Exchange has filed a proposed rule change with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on behalf of Inveso Galaxy to allow for in-kind creations and redemptions of shares for its spot Bitcoin ETF and Ethereum ETF. In-kind redemptions and creations allow for the direct exchange of the underlying assets of the ETF (Bitcoin or Ethereum) for ETF shares, bypassing the need for cash. This method eliminates the need for participants to sell the underlying crypto to create shares, red...
