Overall NFT sales might be down significantly from earlier this year, but collectors are using the bear market and the falling price of ETH to snap up relatively good deals on desirable digital art pieces.
Here’s a prominent example: CryptoPunks NFT #2924 just sold this afternoon for nearly $4.5 million worth of ETH—the largest single NFT sale in recent memory. Measured in ETH, the 3,300 ETH sale price is the fourth-largest all time for CryptoPunks—although it’s much further down the list when measured in terms of U.S. dollars at the time of sale.
CryptoPunk #2924 was sold by notable pseudonymous NFT collector seedphrase, although it’s not immediately clear who the buyer was. This particular CryptoPunks NFT was last sold in November 2020 for 150 ETH—just $71,400 at the time.

It’s one of just 24 apes in the entire CryptoPunks collection, which spans 10,000 unique NFT profile pictures, and is considered the 38th “rarest” NFT in the project by Rarity Tools based on its attributes.
CryptoPunks is one of the most valuable and influential NFT brands, as the Ethereum collection set the core template for modern profile picture projects. It influenced later hits like the Bored Ape Yacht Club and Doodles, and CryptoPunks sales have yielded nearly $2.4 billion to date in secondary trading volume.
The project was launched by Larva Labs in 2017, an early precursor of the NFT market craze of the last two years. Larva Labs ultimately sold the IP rights to Yuga Labs—the Bored Apes creator—in March of this year. Yuga Labs has since opened up commercialization rights to all owners, letting them use their Punks imagery for derivative art and projects.
CryptoPunks are iconic in the crypto world, and the project spurred countless imitators as it popularized tokenized NFT profile pictures. But with a new owner in the form of Bored Ape Yacht Club creator Yuga Labs, we’re starting to get a sense of how the new steward plans to expand the utility of the Ethereum NFTs and push the brand forward. Yuga Labs acquired the CryptoPunks and Meebits properties from original creator Larva Labs in March, along with a sizable stash of NFTs from both collection...
The all-time CryptoPunks sale record was set back in February when Deepak Thapliyal, CEO of cloud blockchain infrastructure startup Chain, purchased Punk #5822 for 8,000 ETH—nearly $24 million worth at the time.
While crypto gaming has long been seen as a key use for blockchain, letting gamers really own and freely trade their unique items and perhaps profit from a game's success, developers are struggling to sustain their games and digital economies. Some games, like Gunzilla Games’ Off the Grid, have punched through to a broader audience, gaining adoption from top streamers and gamers alike—albeit ahead of full blockchain integration. But many other games and studios building with tokens are strugglin...
Another one bites the dust. The list of promising and/or once-prominent crypto games shutting down in 2025 just gained another entry, as Raini Studios announced Thursday that it will sunset its Avalanche NFT card-battler Raini: The Lords of Light next month. According to an X thread, Raini will pay out 2 million in RST token rewards (about $3,340 worth) for June and July ahead of the game's permanent shutdown on July 21. Similar to Blizzard's popular Hearthstone, along with Web3 games like Gods...
Rektguy didn’t mint out its free NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain in 2022—but three years later, the brand has become incredibly familiar with the phrase “sold out,” with the Rekt Drinks brand clearing out successive drops and reaching more and more consumers along the way. The brand, which weathered a brutal crypto bear market thanks in part to the strength of its fervent community, has now sold more than 600,000 cans of Rekt Drinks, a non-alcoholic, flavored sparkling water that comes in a vari...
