AI decentralized autonomous organization ai16z has changed its name to ElizaOS following concerns from tech venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) over brand confusion.
Eliza Labs founder Shaw Walters posted an update to ai16z’s Discord server on Sunday, positioning the change as a forward pivot.
“As we continue to expand across multiple countries, develop our core technology, and foster an incredible community of builders, we are implementing a comprehensive rebranding initiative to ElizaOS,” Walters wrote.
While Walters did not elaborate on the reason behind the name change, ai16z Chris Dixon, managing partner at a16z, said in an interview with Unchained Crypto the similarities between the two entities “was creating a little bit of confusion.”
“I believe they are in the process of changing it,” Dixon reportedly said. “We’ve asked them to.”

AI Agent ElizaOS Is Getting a Robot Body—But It's Not For Sex
Popular AI agent ElizaOS is getting a robot body, but the creators of the robot emphasize it is not to be used for sex. Instead, it is designed to be a humanoid AI companion that builds deep connections with humans by exhibiting emotional intelligence, empathy, and through performing tasks. “Eliza Wakes Up is designed as the next-generation humanoid AI companion,” Ava, Head of Projects for Eliza Wakes Up, told Decrypt. “Eliza offers lifelike emotional intelligence, dynamic physical abilities, an...
Launched in October 2024, ai16z is a decentralized autonomous organization that operates as a venture capital firm run by autonomous AI agents. In January, Eliza Labs released the ElizaOS, an open-source platform on the Solana blockchain designed for building and managing AI agents and simulations.
Walters credited the project's “rapid growth” and broad tech adoption to its contributors and announced plans to pursue significant web2 and web3 partnerships.
The project's native token is down more than 22% to $0.56 and a further 77% from its January 2 all-time high of $2.47, CoinGecko data shows.

AI Agents Are Getting Artificial Vaginas—You Know What Happens Next
Earlier this month, Shaw, the anonymous creator of the popular AI agent known as ElizaOS, offered a $1,000 grant to anyone who could make it possible to have sex with an AI bot. Now, Bry.ai, a Las Vegas-based developer who describes himself as a “builder of sex robots” and a “robot gynecologist,” has stepped forward to claim the prize. Along the way he’s made more than $70,000 from dudes who want to support his intelligent vagina project, known as Orifice, and solve male loneliness by replacing...
In a separate interview with Unchained Crypto, Walters highlighted Eliza Labs' expansion beyond artificial intelligence to robotics.
"If LLMs are the brain, Eliza and similar frameworks are the body. It connects to social media platforms and LLMs and runs fully locally out of the box, so you don’t have to rely on OpenAI,” Walters said. “We focus on making it work on local hardware, phones, custom devices, and soon, robots. It’s a personal passion of mine."
Eliza will continue to be the DAO’s mascot, according to Walters. The $ai16z ticker will remain the same, with future changes to be voted on by the community.
Walters has claimed the DAO would not seek to create more tokens, and the contract address and roadmap would remain unchanged.
Representatives for a16z and ElizaOS did not immediately respond to requests for comment by Decrypt.
