SkyBridge Capital, the hedge fund run by former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, plans to launch a private EthereumEthereum fund for its investors, according to reports.
The firm, which in January launched a $25 million BitcoinBitcoin Fund, will also apply to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for an Ethereum ETF, The Block reported.
New York City-based SkyBridge Capital is one of the many high-profile companies that have applied to the SEC for a Bitcoin ETF. The company, which manages $7 billion in assets, applied in March and the SEC is currently reviewing the application.
An ETF is a popular investment tool that allows people to buy shares that track the price of an asset. This could be anything from real estate to foreign currencies. A Bitcoin ETF allows would-be investors to put their money in cryptocurrencycryptocurrency without having to actually own the cryptocurrency themselves—but rather shares of it.
A Bitcoin (or Ethereum, or any crypto ETF for that matter) ETF does not yet exist in the U.S. because the SEC has refused to approve one. The Commission, which aims to protect retail investors from potential harm, says that Bitcoin’s price is still very much prone to market manipulation.
But there is an appetite for such a product among investors, and analysts have previously told Decrypt that it’s likely one will launch in the U.S. this year, given staff changes at the SEC. In Canada, there are four Bitcoin ETFs and four Ethereum ETFs currently trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange. When they launched, they were extremely popular—but they have since seen a large outflow of funds as the entire crypto market has lost value.
And just last week, Bitcoin ETFs in Brazil and Dubai started trading on their respective stock exchanges.
SkyBridge Capital, the hedge fund run by former White House Communications Director, Anthony Scaramucci, which on Monday opened a Bitcoin fund, was on Thursday overrun by prospective customers. On January 7, SkyBridge held a Zoom call to inform prospective investors about its million Bitcoin Fund, which on Monday held a $310 million position on Bitcoin. But over 6,000 people attempted to join, overwhelming their system and prompting them to schedule a second launch call for Tuesday, January 12...
SkyBridge Capital is an SEC registered investment advisory firm. Its CEO, Scaramucci, who was fired 10 days after becoming White House communications director, in March told Decrypt that he was only focused on Bitcoin—and no other cryptocurrencies.

Strive Asset Management is still pushing GameStop to buy as much Bitcoin as it can, and as quickly as possible. But there is ongoing debate within the company about how much Bitcoin GameStop is willing to buy, Strive CEO Matt Cole told Decrypt on Thursday. “You should expect that they're going to buy some Bitcoin,” Cole said. “But I don’t think it’s decided how much they will go in that direction.” The video game retailer announced a month ago that it could start purchasing Bitcoin as a treasury...

Investment firm RockawayX has successfully secured $125 million for a new early-stage venture capital fund, intended to support crypto-focused communities, particularly those centered around Solana. The investment firm plans to direct its newly raised funds toward discovering and financing projects that enhance the growth of the Solana ecosystem, recognized as the second-largest Layer 1 by total value locked, according to a statement by RockawayX. “Rather than investing in more L1s, we focused...
