The alleged murderer of UnitedHealth Group CEO Brian Thompson is now in the same jail as crypto crook Sam Bankman-Fried.
Luigi Mangione arrived in New York to be housed at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, the Federal Bureau of Prisons website shows, following numerous media reports noting his destination.
The jail is the same place where ex-FTX boss Bankman-Fried is serving a 25-year sentence for his part in the collapse of his crypto company.
And they’re not the only high-profile inmates: News dropped in September that superstar music producer Sean “Diddy” Combs was also being kept at the same detention center on racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges.
Combs reportedly shared a space with Bankman-Fried, and court filings later showed the rap producer and actor was using one of the disgraced crypto entrepreneur’s lawyers.
FTX was one of the biggest crypto companies in the space that allowed users to buy, sell, and bet on the price of digital coins and tokens. But it quickly went bankrupt in November 2022—leading billions of dollars to go up in smoke—thanks to Bankman-Fried and his team’s criminal mismanagement.
Prosecutors on Thursday charged Mangione, 26, with murder as the key suspect in the killing of the health insurance executive Thompson.
The corporate executive was shot dead on December 4 in New York City, with the public murder and subsequent manhunt dominating news headlines. Feds arrested Mangione days later in a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
Prosecutors say Mangione planned the attack for months out of his contempt for the U.S. healthcare industry.
