Netflix show Black Mirror has won countless plaudits for its provocative take on emerging technology, bringing its critical gaze to bear on everything from AI to augmented reality.
Now it's taking on the world of Web3 with the new 'Smile Club,' the first of a range of Black Mirror Digital Experiences from interactive entertainment platform Pixelynx.
Based on the social credit score system from the episode 'Nosedive,' Smile Club challenges participants to navigate the world of Black Mirror and earn points that can be traded for exclusive prizes and experiences.
To earn a unique Smile Pass digital asset, you'll need to smile to log in to the experience, then earn points by smiling, referring new users and completing challenges to move up the global leaderboard.
Pixelynx CEO Inder Phull urged prospective Smile Pass holders to, "Escape our dystopian reality and join Smile Club, the happiest community on earth."
"We created Smile Club to bring fans closer to the Black Mirror universe and push the boundaries with interactive storytelling and digital ownership," Phull said, adding, "Don’t forget to smile, it is the only way to reach your 5 star destiny."
Decrypt and sister Web3 media outlet Rug Radio will partner with Pixelynx on a series of Web3 activations linked to the Black Mirror Smile Club Digital Experience.
Created by Pixelynx in partnership with media and entertainment firm Banijay, which represents global ancillary rights for the Black Mirror brand, the Black Mirror Smile Club Digital Experience is built atop Coinbase's layer-2 protocol Base.
Based in London and Los Angeles, interactive entertainment platform Pixelynx is an Animoca Brands company founded by musicians and technologies Joel Zimmerman, aka deadmau5, Richie Hawtin, aka Plastikman, and music industry figures Ben Turner and Dean Wilson, alongside CEO Inder Phull.
Created by Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones, Emmy award-winning Netflix series Black Mirror is a critically acclaimed anthology drama series exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia.
