Cyberpunk 2077 has completed its vast turnaround, going from a botched and buggy 2020 launch to a much more polished and widely acclaimed experience thanks to a recent update and the Phantom Liberty expansion. Now it’s all getting bundled together for new players—and for some reason, the bundle is the first three-disc set ever for the Xbox Series X.
That’s according to a report from IGN, which confirmed with publisher CD Projekt RED that the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition bundle will span three 50GB Blu-ray discs when it releases on December 5.
It’s also coming to PlayStation 5 and PC, with each containing the upgraded base game and expansion, but those versions won’t have the same physical makeup. The PS5 version has the base game on a disc and a download code for the expansion, while the PC version is just a download code for the whole bundle.
“The reason for the difference in how the Phantom Liberty is included in the Ultimate Edition is due to technical requirements specific to each platform,” the representative said.
In other words, due to the design of the console—or Microsoft’s platform stipulations—the Xbox Series X version of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition needs to come on a whopping three discs. That means it will have the only physical version of Phantom Liberty, which could make it more appealing to collectors.
Xbox Series X game discs typically hold up to 50GB worth of content, so taking up three discs means it’s sure to provide an absolutely massive experience.
The PlayStation 5 uses discs that can hold as much as 100GB worth of data, and it only has one two-disc game so far—Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition, which was released in October. Another double-disc PS5 game is on the horizon, as well, with Square Enix confirming that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will span two discs when it releases on February 29, 2023.
