Amid the worst market collapse for over a year, NewsBTC had the temerity to publish a story headlined: "Ripple Price Analysis: XRP/USD Gaining Bullish Momentum Above $0.36" on Monday. Rest assured, no "bullish momentum" materialized: Ripple plunged further the next day.

NewsBTC, of course, is hardly the only outlet guilty of ginning up Ripple hype for traffic. In this infographic, we track this brand of aggressive optimism across the crypto news spectrum and square it with the sobering reality—the news sites, largely, are making it up.

We hope you like it.

(Disclaimer: We chose Ripple as a particularly egregious case in point, but all of this applies to other major currencies, too.)
