Mazel tov! Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency by market cap, today set a new all-time high. Its highest price ever is now $28,537, according to metrics site CoinMarketCap.
Bitcoin has since dipped to its current price, $27,977. Its price is still up 3.93% in the past 24 hours, according to metrics site CoinMarketCap, and 17.62% in the past week.
At its all-time high, Bitcoin has tripled in price since July and increased by more than five times since March. At its peak today, Bitcoin's market cap hit $528 billion, forming the lion's share of the entire market capitalization of cryptocurrencies, $740 billion.
Often, other coins track Bitcoin price. But in the past 24 hours, the largest coins by market did not uniformly follow Bitcoin’s success.
The second most popular coin, Ethereum, which has increased by the same amount as Bitcoin over the past week, rose by 0.23% in the past day.
And XRP, the coin beleaguered by a lawsuit the SEC slapped on its creators, is up 9% in the past day but down 38% in the past week.

Meme coins are down bad. Dogecoin (DOGE) is down 60% from its 2024 high, Pepe (PEPE) has dropped 73% from its all-time high, and Dogwifhat (WIF) has plummeted 88% from its peak. Not only that but the trenches are drying up too. Popular launchpad and cultural hub Pump.fun launched 64.6% less tokens on Wednesday than it did during its high achieved in January. Alongside this, according to Dune data, the weekly graduation rate of tokens is the lowest it's been since July 2024—a token graduates when...
Comedian William Banks went viral after posting a video of what he claims showed him escaping prison on social media, shortly before he went on a spree of “rug pulling” Solana meme coins. Banks told Decrypt his goal was to be a Robinhood-like “hero” and donate $50,000 of the proceeds to charities supporting those suffering in Palestine following Israel's attacks on Gaza—sharing purported receipts of these payments on X. In October, the comedian was charged and arrested in Westport, Connecticut...
Hacking group Crazy Evil created a fake Web3 company dubbed "ChainSeeker.io" to trick crypto industry job seekers into downloading wallet-draining malware. The group set up LinkedIn and X profiles advertising standard crypto industry jobs, like “Blockchain Analyst” or “Social Media Manager,” according to cybersecurity website Bleeping Computer. The Russian-speaking group, known as Crazy Evil, also took out premium advertisements on websites like LinkedIn, WellFound, and CryptoJobsList to boost...
