The price of XRP has fallen to $0.26. This marks a decline of 42% in the past day, according to data from CoinMarketCap.
XRP's price started to crash on Monday, when Ripple Labs, the company linked to XRP, announced that the US Securities and Exchange Commission was about to slap it with a lawsuit.
Then fell even further yesterday after the SEC officially announced the lawsuit.
The suit alleges that Ripple has raised $1.3 billion worth of XRP in unregistered securities sales since 2013—and continues to do so. Ripple has long maintained a huge amount of XRP in escrow wallets, which it sells periodically to manipulate the supply of XRP in circulation, a little like a central bank. The SEC alleges that such activities are illegal. The suit also named Ripple's co-founder Christian Larsen and incumbent CEO Brad Garlinghouse as defendants.
The price of XRP had settled at about $0.3 this afternoon but fell a further four cents this evening to its current price of $0.26.
Since the SEC announced the charges, three exchanges have since stopped trading the cryptocurrency and Bitwise has liquidated all XRP from its fund. The Block reported today that two of the largest crypto trading desks, Jump Trading and Galaxy Digital, will no longer act as market makers for the coin.
Two crypto investment firms, Galaxy Digital and Jump Trading, have cut ties with XRP, according to reports. Crypto news site The Block today reported that the trading desks confirmed that they stopped making markets in XRP following Ripple’s high profile lawsuit. Yesterday, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a $1.3 billion lawsuit against Ripple Labs, the company associated with XRP. Three exchanges have since stopped trading the cryptocurrency and the token’s price has drop...

Is Bitcoin decoupling from risk assets like equities and morphing into a “safe haven” like gold? The largest cryptocurrency by market value is behaving differently these days, but it may still be too early to tell whether the new trend will hold, several analysts say. The price of Bitcoin was recently trading near $93,000 on Tuesday, an almost 7% jump over the past day, according to crypto data provider CoinGecko. The asset’s price swelled after U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent said that Washing...
The price of Bitcoin jumped as high as $91,684 on Tuesday as investors weighed whether Washington’s tit-for-tat with Beijing on tariffs could come to a sooner-than-expected end. Bitcoin was recently up 4.5% over the past 24 hours, losing some ground from earlier in the afternoon but still on track to register its largest day gain since April 9, when the asset surged 8.3%, according to Bitcoin CounterFlow. That was the day that U.S. President Donald Trump lowered “reciprocal” tariffs on nearly al...
Bitcoin is back above $90,000 and reaching highs not seen since the start of March, but it's not the only major coin in the green on Tuesday. As of this writing, Dogecoin, Solana, and Ethereum are all showing larger percentage gains on the day. Dogecoin, the original meme coin, has jumped by nearly 9% over the last 24 hours to a current price of $0.172. And while that's still just shy of the coin's highest price so far in April, it's no doubt a welcome respite for DOGE holders who have watched t...
