Cats and crypto? It’s been a winning combination in the past, and the developers of Nyan Heroes hope it’ll hit again with an NFT-powered online game—and they’ll be in view of a potentially sizable market thanks to a listing on the Epic Games Store.

The Nyan Heroes team announced Thursday that the upcoming PC battle royale shooter will be released via the prominent marketplace, with a “coming soon” page already visible via the Epic Games Store. No official release date is listed for the free-to-play shooter, which features feline heroes commanding towering mech suits in combat.

Battle royale shooters like Fortnite, PUBG, and Apex Legends are some of the most popular games on the market. Each game packs dozens of players (or more) into a large game map and gradually closes off the playable space, forcing combatants closer and closer as they battle to survive and become the last player or team still standing.

Nyan Heroes is built on the Solana blockchain, and has previously launched various NFTs on the chain, including a series of profile pictures (PFPs) that have climbed in price over the last day since the news came out.

Developer 9 Lives Interactive is also teasing some type of airdrop ahead for community members, although it’s unclear at this point whether it will come in the form of NFTs or a crypto token. Many other crypto projects (including games) have launched and airdropped tokens in recent weeks as the broader market recovers from a prolonged downturn.

“Excitement alert! Our first-ever airdrop for 2024 is on the horizon, and it's going to be epic,” the game’s official Twitter account tweeted this week. “Rally behind us, dive into the action, [and] let's embark on this grand adventure together!”

Solana hosts numerous other crypto and NFT games, including play-to-earn games like Ev.io, Stepn, and Aurory that let players amass token rewards. Click here to look at some of the biggest Solana games that let you earn while playing.
