$420 Million in Bitcoin Flees BitMEX Following Federal Charges
Bitcoin continues to flow out of the Seychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX as the company vows to vigorously fight allegations of money laundering.
The BitcoinBitcoin exodus from BitMEX continued Friday afternoon as traders continued to withdraw funds from the world’s fifth-largest cryptocrypto derivatives exchange. The move follows a series of charges laid out against the firm by federal prosecutors in New York.
Updated figures from analytics firm Glassnode shows that traders have withdrawn almost double the amount Decrypt reported earlier this morning, for a total of nearly 40,000 BTC since the case was announced Thursday. That’s around $420 million worth of Bitcoin at today’s prices.

The total amount pulled from the exchange over the past day is now nearly 40,000 $BTC.
Glassnode previously announced that about 23,200 BTC, or $243 million, was withdrawn from BitMEX in a single hour, which the data firm called the largest hourly outflow they have seen from the exchange to date.
About 170,000 in Bitcoin or $1.8 billion, had been held in the BitMex wallets, according to Glassnode.
Further, open positions on Bitcoin futures contracts on BitMEX have taken a 20% hit, according to data from analytics firm Skew, since news of the indictment broke.

Crypto Twitter is a lively place on even the most average of days. However, on a day in which the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commissions (CFTC) charged cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX and its owners with illegally operating an unregistered trading platform and money-laundering violations, you can be sure the takes will be ample and hot indeed.
Although the price of Bitcoin quickly dropped by about $500 (it has since recovered some ground), some of the top tweets of the day highlighte...

U.S. law enforcement officials using brute force to seize cash from Bitcoin ATMs are overstepping their authority and may be violating the law, Bitcoin Depot CLO Chris Ryan said.
Ryan told Decrypt that funds police may seize rightfully belong to the Atlanta, Georgia-based provider of Bitcoin ATMs, and that they are liable for damages to the machines, even as they try to return large sums to consumers who say they’ve been scammed.
“You’ve got these rogue law enforcement officers thinking that th...

Crypto leaders have forecasted that once the federal government gives the green light, hundreds of...
