Mobile game developer iCandy Interactive announced Tuesday it has partnered with blockchain gaming company Animoca Brands to launch a new game called Snaky Cat on Base, the layer-2 Ethereum scaling network built by U.S. crypto exchange Coinbase.

Inspired by classic Snake games, Snaky Cat is a multiplayer game where players control snake-like cats that grow longer by eating food drops. Players can compete to become the longest cat and move up the leaderboard to win crypto rewards in TOWER tokens.

Players need to purchase tickets using TOWER tokens to play each round, and must connect a crypto wallet, but play-to-earn mechanics mean that they can gain TOWER in return. The TOWER token is already used in three other games: Crazy Kings, Crazy Defense Heroes, and Chaos Kingdom.

The Australia-based iCandy says that its games have been played by over 370 million gamers worldwide. Snaky Cat was developed by its Malaysian subsidiary Appxplore. Animoca Brands—an investor in iCandy—helped design the game’s Web3 components and integration with Base, the Ethereum scaler incubated by Coinbase.

“We're excited to see projects like Snaky Cat embracing Base and pushing the boundaries of on-chain gaming,” said Base creator Jesse Pollak, in a release. “It's a step towards a more inclusive and connected digital future.”
