The government of Ukraine has announced an airdrop as part of its ongoing push for cryptocurrency donations amid Russia's invasion.
An airdrop is when a project or organization sends cryptocurrencies or NFTs to user addresses that had, in some way, interacted with the entity. It is, for example, a popular tool to get governance tokens from DeFi projects into the hands of early adopters.
According to a tweet from the Ukrainian government's official Twitter account, the airdrop has been confirmed and a snapshot will be taken and shared tomorrow at 6 pm Kyiv time (11 am EST).
The tweet also points out that news regarding Ukraine's crypto donation campaign will be shared by Vice Prime Minister Fedorov Mykhailo and no longer via the government's official account.
The government has not, to date, provided further information surrounding the airdrop.
News of the upcoming airdrop follows a long line of crypto donations sent to Ukraine amid Russia's invasion.
The Ukrainian government’s Twitter account first shared that it was accepting Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether (USDT) donations on February 26, 2022, two days after the invasion began.
Yesterday, Ukraine began accepting Polkadot donations, tweeting that more cryptocurrencies would be accepted soon.
By February 28, 2022, Ukraine had received $20 million in its crypto crowdfunding effort. At the time, Elliptic figures showed this comprised $4.6 million and $5.6 million worth of BTC and ETH and an additional $3 million sent to a TRON address and another $7.2 million in unspecified crypto by the Ukrainian NGO Come Back Alive.
According to blockchain records, the Bitcoin and Ethereum wallets belonging to the government have to date received $9 million and $10 million, respectively.
Per Elliptic, the Ukrainian government has also received donations from a fundraiser called Support Ukrainian Sovereignty, which claims to have raised over $500,000, which was not made in cryptocurrencies.
