The first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto game was supposed to release early Tuesday, but following an unexpected leak on Monday afternoon, Rockstar Games went ahead and released the first glimpse at what is officially called Grand Theft Auto 6.
The first trailer appears to confirm many of the earlier leaks about the game, including a return to the Miami-inspired locale of Vice City (from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, of course), albeit in the modern era rather than the 1980s, plus it will have the series' first female protagonist—one of two reported playable leads.
In fact, the biggest surprise of the trailer may be the release window noted at the end: Grand Theft Auto 6 will release in 2025, not next year, which means there's still a considerable wait ahead for the next big open-world adventure.
But Rockstar Games surely isn't going to rush this sequel. It's been 10 years since Grand Theft Auto 5 released, and it's gone on to sell some 190 million copies to date across all platforms, including three console generations. It'll be ready when it's ready, we imagine—and hopefully well worth the wait. Watch the first trailer below:
