Telegram game Tomarket is expected to launch its TOMA token on The Open Network (TON) during Halloween, and while we won’t know what the token is worth until it’s trading, the game’s developers are betting that some players are willing to spend money in advance to boost their allocation.
On Monday, Tomarket revealed a sale for its Premium Medal, an item that provides various benefits for users, including for the impending airdrop.
Most notably, the in-game medal provides a “bonus multiplier on your TOMA allocation,” along with “100% tokens when we list.”
In other words, players who purchase the item will see some undisclosed boost to the amount of tokens they earned through gameplay, while the other bonus suggests the game will not give players their entire earned allotment right away—without buying the medal, that is.
Hamster Kombat similarly held back a portion of players’ tokens, which will vest over a span of several months, though that massively popular game did not offer a way to spend money to unlock your entire allocation from the start.
Tomarket has yet to unveil details on token vesting or the size of the multiplier, but it is selling the Premium Medal feature for 1 TON or 250 Telegram stars—approximately $5 either way.
Just 200,000 of the items are available for purchase, according to the developers, though it’s not clear how many are remaining. Decrypt has reached out to learn more.
In any case, the item will also offer a “bonus multiplier” in another upcoming feature or service, along with “more benefits,” the in-game screen suggests.
A Tomarket representative clarified to Decrypt’s GG that players will receive their airdrop allocations within 24 hours of the token generation event, which is set for approximately 12 pm ET on Thursday, October 21.
On Tuesday, the developers of Tomarket—which has amassed over 40 million players as of last week—said that the game will add a “Farming Pool” feature following the token launch. The feature will let TOMA holders earn access to token farming opportunities for new projects, along with the ability to earn by referring friends to such projects.
