Education Index, a UK-based education startup, today announced the launch of a new blockchain start-up that makes it easier for students to apply for university. University hopefuls can use the platform, called the Libereka Common Application & Scholarship System (LCASS) to apply to multiple universities and accept scholarships with a single application form.
Libereka stores student information on the blockchain, including academic credentials, transcripts, and letters of recommendation. Libereka can also recommend degrees and programs based on information provided by students.
“Libereka makes recruiting students simpler, cheaper and more efficient, freeing up time for universities to focus on what really matters: securing the best and brightest students,” said Coumik Ganguly, CEO of Education Index.
Libereka also offers an “advanced matching tool,” which lets qualified candidates “generate a guaranteed offer for a degree type at a desired study destination.”
Additionally, money collected by the scholarship system through university access fees is reserved for funding. Each student using the platform gets a minimum of $500 to pay costs for studies abroad.
Universities can also offer scholarship money, and if the student decides not to take up an offer, Libereka’s system gives the money back.
Libereka is available to students in the “biggest markets for university recruitment”, amongst them China, Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent.
Libereka will also issue blockchain-based credentials, meaning students will always have an official, blockchain-approved record of their degree.
